Private Direction, shaped around the event.
Event Direction is the principal way to work with Logeion: Private Direction for one consequential live event. Every engagement begins with something real. An approaching event. A particular audience. Something that matters enough to prepare properly. Private Direction is led personally by Joe Lichtenstein and shaped around the individual, the occasion and what needs to be achieved.
There is no standard model of how a leader should perform. The work begins by understanding what this particular moment requires. Then we rehearse it.
Event Direction
Private Direction for one consequential moment. An AGM. A Capital Markets Day. A leadership transition. A keynote. A major speech. An important meeting or difficult announcement. We begin by understanding the event, its audience and what is at stake. Then we work directly with the performance. I observe what is happening, identify what could be stronger and direct the adjustments that will make a difference.
We explore different choices, test them and rehearse until they become available naturally. The work usually takes place over several sessions in the weeks leading up to the event. This allows time between rehearsals to absorb the direction, practise independently and discover what has changed. The aim is to enter it with reliable access to the abilities you already possess.
Other arrangements
Focused Direction
When time is limited or the task is specific. Focused Direction provides a concentrated period of one-to-one work around that immediate need. Focused Direction may take place in person or remotely.
Ongoing Private Direction
For leaders whose work regularly places them under scrutiny. Ongoing Private Direction establishes a continuing relationship with a director who comes to know the individual, their strengths, their habits and what happens to them under pressure. The work remains anchored to real occasions. We can build on previous rehearsals rather than beginning again.
Working with your team
Private Direction complements the people already supporting you. Your communications team may be shaping the message. Investor Relations may understand the expectations of the audience. A speechwriter may be refining the words. I work with the person who has to deliver them. Where useful, I collaborate with the people responsible for the event so that the direction takes account of the practical circumstances and the work already undertaken.
The rehearsal itself remains a private environment, with participation and information-sharing agreed in advance. There is no requirement to involve the wider organisation.
In person or remotely
Direction can take place in person or over video. Remote rehearsals can be especially useful when schedules are demanding, when an event is approaching quickly, or when the performance itself will take place on screen. The work may involve a major formal presentation or something much smaller: a speech, an important conversation, a virtual meeting or a specific moment that needs attention.
The method remains the same. We work with the person and the performance in front of us.
The work is private. So is the relationship.
Discretion is fundamental to Private Direction. The rehearsal room must be somewhere an accomplished person can experiment, make mistakes and be challenged without concern for how those moments might be perceived elsewhere. I do not publicise client relationships, identify the people I work with or use their performances as marketing material without explicit permission.
I am happy to enter into a non-disclosure agreement before receiving confidential information or beginning an engagement. Where colleagues or advisers are involved, their participation and access to information are agreed in advance. The purpose of the relationship is not to create a public success story for Logeion.
It is to make the performance work. The performance may be public. The preparation does not have to be.
Frequently asked questions
How many sessions will I need?
That depends on the occasion. I generally recommend several rehearsals spread over time. This allows changes to develop and gives us an opportunity to see how the performance is progressing. Single sessions and more concentrated engagements are also possible where appropriate.
Can you work with my communications team or advisers?
Yes. I can work alongside those preparing the content and organisation of the event while concentrating on the performance itself. Alternatively, engagements can be arranged privately with the individual.
What if the event is approaching very soon?
Get in touch. Some performances benefit from several weeks of preparation. Others may be improved through a shorter period of focused direction. What is possible depends on the circumstances and availability.
Begin with the event.
If you have an important occasion approaching, you can contact me directly. Tell me a little about the event, when it is taking place and what you would like to achieve. We can establish whether Private Direction is appropriate and what an engagement might involve. All enquiries are treated discreetly.
Confidentiality agreements and secure communication arrangements are available where required.
